Connie, the debris flows are items from the entire watershed of the Sacramento River which is all the area from Shasta to Sacramento. Items like 55 gallon drums that have been emptied and resealed, to dead trees. All whizzing by at 12-15 knots(?) This is typical from others who know much more than I do about the behavior of the Sacramento and the American Rivers. The American is not navigable for more than a mile then shallows out rapidly as you go upstream. Good for small unpowered boat like kayaks and rafts. It's a bit cleaner but not by much. So I just spend my time polishing and cleaning up bird dooo on my boat. Will haul the C-Dory out in a few more days for a bottom cleaning and and oil change. All for now Connie. Fair Winds and keep smiling, you have many fans who relish hearing about your experiences and giving us sound advice. Take care, Larry Hughston on the Sacramento, just not boating for now. What sort of debris do you have in the river? Run-off from high water/ too much rain? That sound dangerous if you are traveling at higher speeds. I wouldn't want to high a submerged log doing 20 knots..... Happy motoring in 20015 Larry Ciao, Connie & Katrina
Connie, even though I am no longer sailing (I sold my M15 to someone who is really using it. I sold him a well cared for vessel. I am now in a powered C-Dory that I brought down from Washington State. I am a happy cruiser now with twin Hondas on the transom. Happy New Year to you and your family.....Larry Hughston on the Sacramento River (now clogged with all sorts of debris, not pretty...)
