Paul, I used a Schaefer 78-05 Welded Pad Eye at the masthead to make an attachment point for my topping lift. I elongated both its mounting holes 1/16" for it to fit across the two clevis pins that hold the sheaves in the masthead. I then removed both cotter rings, put in across the clevis pins on the starboard side and put the cotter rings back on to hold it in place. The topping lift is simply a line tied to the pad eye, it has two sister clips at the other end for attaching to the boom end (which has one sister clip attached to it by means of a o-ring/keyring actually, thru the outhaul eyestrap). One clip position holds the boom up, the other clip position is used to slack the topping lift line once the sail is raised. No drilling, simple and inexpensive. George M15 #319
