My fairly new (2017 model year) Honda 2.3 would not sit in such a way that I could rotate it in the transom notch. Close, but no dice. Maybe the throttle lever or head cover or something changed in recent years, got bulkier? I have seen the old 2hp ones and they look less bulky. Ditto the part about full thrust in reverse when you have to spin the motor to get reverse. Nice to have. Though if you have 3.5 hp in the motor, in reverse that may be as much thrust as the 2.3 spun around. Also the throttle arm goes about 270 degrees, so you can have it forward even when the motor is turned 180 to reverse. You don't have to be leaning out over the stern to reach the throttle. cheers, John On 5/24/20 7:48 PM, Jon Barber wrote:
Both motors swivel in the notch, just. You have to cut the fuel lever flush with the case. When rotated to the reverse position I get the same thrust as when going forward, which is much better than turning a propeller backward. I can direct the thrust by rotating the motor in sync with the rudder and have become adept at "parking" dockside. I recommend you borrow one and experiment.
Reliable, Reliable, Reliable!
At 27 # it's the best motor for my needs. I would not hang one of those adjustable mounts on the transom. It puts the motor further aft increasing the effective weight on the transom. It neatly stows under the cockpit sole when not needed. Out of sight, out of mind.
