M_Boats: Does a loose footed main sail perform better than a bolted main?

My recent request about an M15 main sail was answered by Doug, he purchased a new "loose footed" main and had in increase in performance. Has anyone else experienced this? What is the advantage of a bolted main which seems what most have? Norm #172
