Thanx Connie. I like your attitude, I am an old fud too, but not so old that I am ready to sit in the rocking chair when I can be sitting in the cockpit of my M-15. However, my daughter has voiced concern about me crawling over the cabin to the foredeck to do fiddle with the jib, it is time for her son, my grand-son to learn how to handle the foredeck. Getting to be an old codger isn't easy. The mind still knows what it wants to do but the old muscles and limbs just laugh at the presumption. I can't scramble on a foredeck any more; and my sextant skills are very rusty, but I'm with you and hope that you find a young crew member to help you race. Keep going. The alternative is to sit in an rocking chair and ask, "remember when...." Connie - Wrinkleboat M15 # 400 Have lots of memories and can still talk the talk. Remember that "Nor'easter in Oak Bluffs, on Maratha's Vineyard where we rocked and rolled in the harbor for three days...."?
Good Day WrinkleBoaters, I would like to make my crewed boat available to someone that would REALLY like to race a WrinkleBoat at WICR for the 2017 event but may not have a boat or??? 'Tiny Purple Fishes' - a Montgomery 17t is available to race (crewed by yours truly) at the 2017 WrinkleBoat Intergalactic Championship Regatta. The boat will be registered for the event, race prepped, launched/retrieved and finger foods including selected (appropriate) beverages provided. Helmsperson need only bring their personal PFD and day bag - (I am unable to provide lodging at this time - another story - but shuttle to and from the Lake from local hotel will be provided) HERE IS THE CAVEAT:
I am looking for an 'up and coming' or 'wannabe' young sail racer or an elderly person (a Geezer - that thinks they have 'one more good race' in them) and will make the boat and event available to them. Yeah - I am being a little selective here - but bear with me. When I was young and entering the sport, a boat dealer 'loaned' me a brand new dinghy to race in the Yacht Club Junior Program for one whole year !! That kind act helped me stay in the sport and grow to love sail boat racing - time to pass along another opportunity, in at least a small way. In the past we have operated a Sailing Access Program for challenged persons, lent a hand to folks who needed assistance to sail/row for any number of reasons - ( I crew for "geezers"... hell...I need crew myself NOW! !) I will need help sailing MY boat into my golden years and will crew for anyone here that needs a hand to help them sail - nobody said getting old was going to be 'fun' - I crewed for JM in Monterey last year and he is OLD...and we were half fast. If you know of a 'kid' that would benefit - PLEASE see what we can do to help them be able to race an ugly old FAST boat (it is slow compared to a 49'er). I no longer have a marine facility to operate from, SO my opportunities to do this type of activity are fewer and farther between... send me an email if you know of someone who may be interested - "The Big Honkin' Trophy" could be theirs ! ! Have Fun, Go Sailing! PLEASE help me find a KID that wants to race!! or a Geezer..... GO M-17t sail #354 'Tiny Purple Fishes' Team Geezer Racing '....Old and In the Way...but..'
* If I don't get a 'driver' for 2017 - I will sail the boat in PHRF - it will NOT compete in the WrinkleBoat Fleet for 2017. (One less boat in the Fleet! -bummer dudes and dudettes! let's find a good candidate!)
