A 4hp motor on a M15 is excessive weight, for balancing and triming the boat, EXCESSIVE power. The M15 is absolutely fine with a Honda 2/2.3. Suzuki is offering a long shaft 2.5 but adds complication of a water pump (yearly teardown and service) and shift linkage (a failure point). IMO at this point don't worry about damaging the transom IF you see no evidence of cracking around the fasteners (both by external and internal inspection) AND you don't have the motor on the transom when trailering the boat. Final IMO - get a Honda 2/2.3. :: Dave Scobie :: M6'8" #650 :: Baba 30 #233 DEJA VU :: SV SWALLOW - sv-swallow.com :: former owner M17 #375 SWEET PEA - m17-375.com :: former owner M15 #288 SCRED - m15namedscred.wordpress.com <<-- new site! Hi: Been reading a lot about motors, etc, horsepower and stuff. When I bought my boat it came with a 4 horsepower. I’m concerned about the strength of the M15’s transom and motor mount handling 75 pounds. I’ve been sailing with it for 6 years but boats get older and things weaken. Can the M15 handle 75 pounds. Thanks Pete WinterSky (Zimowsky)
