I'm sure good sails matter a lot more than a bolt, but optimizing hundreds of tiny details adds up to huge differences, especially in a race. Have you done this Carlos?
I have not tried it, but I would expect it to noticeably impair the boats pointing ability, by creating turbulent flow along much of the keel, where laminar flow is essential for the keel to produce lift.

Steve if you do remove the pin, replace it with a 3/8 x 5 inch stainless bolt, flat washer on each side. don't have to worry about pin coming out. they do.

Dropping the board is the only option. Very rarely needed (unless you guy squirrels!).

Is there any preventive maintenance steps possible to maintain or replace the center board pendent so dropping the board out of the boat is not required?

Steve:
You may be able to overextend the board and get the new pendent in place (see attached picture of John Chille's boat with board over extended). Your board is likely going be in this orientation as there is no longer a pendent holding it up. The spacing is tight so you may not be able to thread the new pendent into the board (be sure to note the 'removing center core of the line' bit in the link). Much easier to drop the board.

I'll add that the above description DON'T use silicone! Use Sikaflex
291
or 3M4200. Push the pin out port to starboard and back in starboard to port.

the ring, or will the pivot pin have to be removed as well?

Steve, the center board will have to be lowered to replace the line, boat yard, boat lift.?

Hello, I have a 2002 Montgomery 15. Has anyone had to replace the line to their centerboard? I thought this would be easy, but I don't see how to get to it. A squirrel chewed through the line at deck level. The boat was on the trailer so the centerboard did not drop. There is a wood step in the way across the hatch entrance with a hole where the line ran through. I don't see any easy way to remove this either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve
