I agree with sal, it's a matter of individual preference. I prefer inexpensive yet elegant--if I come up with a reliable approach of my own devising, that's for me. Plus I'll always spend $10 rather than $80 (with a Clove Hitch it's surely even less expensive...), which is roughly the cost difference between my homemade solution and the tiller clutch.
