I bought my old CD player in 1995 and I don't think it has any anti-skip system on it.  I went to the local discount store and checked out the Sony Walkman CD player.  I bet other customers were wondering what I was doing as I  shook it,  rocked it as if it were on board during an attack of graybeards, and even turned it upside down. It didn't skip at all. Needless to say, it is onboard now.
