Just returned home from a trip to Catalina Island, about 26 miles out of LA Harbor. I was accompanied by Gary Hyde....(and Jo took the easy way over on the ferry boat and met us over there). Believe it or not, we were completely skunked on wind over 4 days! UGH! But, it was beautiful over there, a great break from the desert heat. We joined the Socal Potters for the trip. There were two other Monty's that went as well. The big word for this trip.......FOG........22 miles of it to be exact! Thick fog.......a little creepy crossing the shipping lanes! No....make that a lot creepy. As a group we had a few "adventures" which I'll elaborate on later on my web site. Should get to work on that in the next few days with a photo/video journal of the trip. Bob Eeg surprised us with a visit at our slip the day before we departed and brought us a bottle of wine. Thanks Bob!!! He even gave us a ride over to the grocery store which saved us a lot of walking while provisioning. Gary, Jo and I enjoyed visiting with him for a while and hearing about some of the projects that he's been working on. Well, that's it for now. I'll post a message when the webpage for the trip is finished. Not really any sailing shots but we had a lot of fun regardless. Catalina is a beautiful place. Their business is down severely due to fuel prices which makes it less crowded and almost all sailboats over there vs the normal almost all powerboats. You Socal Monty guys have a jewel right there in your back yard. I can't wait to go again! Thanks for the company Gary! We had a great time.
