Sooo... It turns out that the price difference isn't entirely due to shipping costs or "yachty" prices. I called Washington Chain and Supply. They gave me two prices for "100' 1/4" Grade 30 Hot Dipped Galvanized Proof Coil Chain" to be picked up at their Seattle store (no shipping or delivery charges): Domestic: $190.00 Imported: $110.00 I have not inspected the products and cannot comment on quality, but the WC&S representative assured me the imported has the same working strength etc. as the domestic. In conclusion: If "imported" meant Canada, Japan, Brazil, or a multitude of other friendly countries I wouldn't hesitate to buy it - but in this case it doesn't. Since this isn't the montgomery_politics listserve I'll leave it at that. Anyhoo, the good news is that you can still get good ole 'merican made chain for 1/2 to 2/3 the price of West Marine if you're lucky enough to have a local chain/rigging supplier. - Jim M17 "Spirit" Sailing Puget Sound and Points North

Fellow Monties;
So West Marine sells 100' of grade 30 1/4" hot dip galvanized proof coil chain for around $400 but I can buy what appears to be the same stuff at Home Depot for about $200 and online for less than that all day long. What am I missing?
