Great Price! I just spent over $400 last year for a stock rudder/tiller. I know the Idasailor expands our options but i just love the look of that varnished mahogony rudder. It is important that i remember to raise it at the dock... i don't have the feature that raises the rudder on my craft... must have broken in previous ownership. I have to raise it by hand. I have forgotten a couple times and have pulled out at the ramp and scraped on pavement for yards. Kind of makes you sick to your stomach. Haven't blown this with the new one yet. jeff M17 #336 Gary M Hyde <gmhyde1@mac.com> wrote: Gilbert: I just upgraded to the latest Idasailor kickup rudder. Just a question.. This weekend I was looking at a parked Catalina 22 on a trailer and I saw its rudder and I thought mmmmm I wonder if this would fit my M-17 w the broken rudder. The pintles were not adjustable but I probably could adjust the gudgeons on the boat, it was a nice kick up design and it looked like it would work w/o major mods. Anybody gone down this road?

Bob: I made a photo of the stock, older Idasailor kickup, and new Idasailor kickup rudders. I can email you a copy if you like.

This next M_17 going to Utah has the newer Idasailor Rudder.
I like how it folds; and it looks stout enough. It arrived yesterday and
fit like a glove. Anyone have experience (positive and negative) on the
durability and ease of folding this rudder? The blade appears to sit
deeper when folded down; and she has a line pull to raise her.
Some changes: We're going to all rope halyards with a larger shackle
for the main and jib. The M_17 Strawanza, now 'out there somewhere'
was all rope and I liked the way we could run lines aft for singlehanding.
Also, on the new M_15s were going with a turnbuckle on the forestay.
This makes it easier to set the side shrouds only once, and tension
the headstay nice and tight. We have done this on several of the 15s
and now think the extra cost is worth it.
Fair winds......Bob
