I think this might be of wide enough interest that I'll post it here. Creating mail rules is much easier to DO than to DESCRIBE!!! Each version of Outlook Express is just a little different, so the exact wording or menu location may not match exactly, but the concept should see you through. Almost all mail programs have a similar capability for rules. I have Outlook Express 6. First, create a new mail folder by selecting NEW in the Outlook Express's FILE MENU, then select FOLDER. You will probably see a tree of your existing folders. Click on the folder where you want the new one to appear as a sub-folder. Selecting LOCAL FOLDER will put your new folder at the same tree level as the inbox, outbox, etc. That's where my MBOATS folder is. Give your new folder an appropriate name, like MBOATS, and click OK. If you get it wrong, you can drag the new folder to the tree location you want, or just right click on the new folder, DELETE it, and try again. (If you should make a horrible mistake and inadvertently delete an important folder, it should be in your DELETED ITEMS folder and can be dragged back to its original location. BE FEARLESS! <smile>) The TOOLS MENU has a choice for MESSAGE RULES then MAIL. Open that and look for the NEW button on the MAIL RULES tab. Clicking NEW should open a window divided into four sections: 1. Conditions 2. Actions 3. Description 4. Name In CONDITIONS, check "WHERE THE SUBJECT LINE CONTAINS SPECIFIC WORDS". In ACTIONS, check "MOVE TO A SPECIFIED FOLDER" and "STOP PROCESSING MORE RULES". Make sure you select MOVE TO and not COPY TO. DESCRIPTION should be automatically filled in with the actions you selected and hyperlinks where you define the details of the actions. Click on the CONTAINS SPECIFIC WORDS hyperlink and then type in M_Boats: Note that it's an underscore, not a hyphen. Then click ADD and OK. Click on the SPECIFIED FOLDER hyperlink and choose the folder you created at the beginning of this, then OK. NAME, Anything you like - I use MBOATS OK your way out of the dialogs and you've got a new rule. All list mail should now automatically be placed in your MBOATS folder rather than your inbox. I find that it is much faster to browse that folder than to read the digest. Contact me directly at montgomery_boats-owner@mailman.xmission.com if I've hopelessly confused you. I'll try to help.
