I've seen Sean's modification. His was to correct the mounting location which was off to the side, causing the pennant to cut into the trunk.

I made a wedge, pics attached. Just wood flour thickened epoxy resin, poured in some round plastic tub or lid or similar tilted a few degrees off level. My main reason was so the $#%@#%! winch handle would clear the CB trunk - it's not a ratcheting winch (not on mine anyhow - #38, 1974), can only go around in one direction. It did also help with the angle of pennant to winch drum.

It needs tilted up about 1/4" when measured at the lower edge of the winch. A shim of some sort would be the ticket, but I can't add too much thickness to the mount to keep the pennant straight below the winch.
