Chet, I have had an M15 for 5 years and find the cockpit delightful. I have previously owned an AMF 2100 (22ft racer/cruiser, a Cape Dory 25 and a few daysailers. I am 5' 8" and it fits me just perfectly. You can very comfortably brace yourself on the leeward seat without stretching and with a tiller extension can snuggle up to the cabin while sailing to windward. It is a good fit for two adults but three is stretching it. I have fallen asleep in the cockpit while watching the stars on many a night. But is is a bit short at about 5' long. I have cruised on the boat for up to 7 days without getting off the boat for other than swimming or beach combing and find it very comfortable. You can slide the cabin hatch open and stand in the cabin with one foot on each bunk and raise and lower the sails or mount and dismount the whisker pole. I have been told that the M17 cockpit is one of the most comfortable of any boat made. When I crew in it is a very comfortable seating arrangement but I find everything just a little out of reach. If you need a boat to frequently handle 3 or more people the M17 is the better choice. Thanks Doug Kelch --- Chet Clocksin <cclocksin@buckeye-express.com> wrote:
Hi all,
I'm interested in downsizing to a 15 to 18 foot boat. The Montgomery's look great, and I wonder if any of you can tell me if the M-15 has a deep enough cockpit to sit in comfortably, or is it a "knees in the chest" type of cockpit?
Thanks for any info.
Chet
