Chris, I bought and paid for my m15 sight unseen and before I had ever laid eyes on one. Like, most who have responded, I had researched the web thoroughly and knew I wanted an m 15 or 17! The vehicle situation made the m15 the better choice. My family/sailing situation made the 17 the better choice. During my decision process an m15 came up on e-bay for less than any price I had seen up to that point for an m15. After talking to the owner, I was convinced he had a good boat. Biggest impulse buy to date for me. I have not been disappointed. We have had a blast with the boat. However, If I had made a mistake it would have hurt my pride but not been a financial disaster. You may want to think carefully the m15 vs 17 decision. It's a lot of money for a new one only to find out you really wanted the 17. I would try to sail on both before I bought a new one. I'm about to purchase a new Montgomery 15 - what propels me to this purchase is your enthusiasm for the Montgomery boats. But I have never even seen this boat in person. My question for you folks is: Have any of you put down your money to purchase a boat that you have never sailed, let alone, seen? Should I? My history is that I have been researching and looking for used Potters for about a year and came across your group and I have been following your writings for months. The upshot of it is that you have convinced me to get me a M15, but it remains a boat that I have never touched, sat in, launched or sailed, or even seen it sailed. The factory is 3,000 miles away from our home in SC, so going there for a first-hand look-see is not a viable option. I'm fortunate that I have a wife who supports my getting into sailing, but she does raise the question if I am of sound mind ordering something sight unseen.
What do you think? Chris
