If you make all-carbon boards we'll have to increase your handicap! -----Original Message----- From: GILASAILR--- via montgomery_boats Sent: Wednesday, December 30, 2015 9:32 AM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: Companionway boards John, I have a new unused set of Starboard 3 piece boards for my 17 - - bead and cove horizontal edges and nonskid faces on exterior - they fit great BUT - I think I may build a new set from all composite - just because. I may sell mine (new, unused, for M-17 early deck) - as I have not made use of them, John Owens (JO Woodworks) made them for me and they are sitting here in my office - PM me if you may be interested - I am still using the original 1980 plywood boards to this day! Thinking of building carbon ones with no wood frame. Happy New Year ! GO In a message dated 12/30/2015 7:13:22 A.M. US Mountain Standard Time, scoobscobie@gmail.com writes: John. Have a boat with starboard dropin boards in the shop. Owner in FL and no real teak on outside of boat. Dropin out of plastic bit more difficult to make as Starboard doesn't take to being glued. Will share pictures when back at the shop. :: Dave Scobie On Dec 29, 2015 9:07 PM, "John Schinnerer" <john@eco-living.net> wrote:
Follow-on question - has anyone used Starboard or something similar (solid synthetics) for their companionway boards? Pajarita (my M-17) came with boards made from only half-decent ply, which have warped some (especially the topmost board) with respect to "straight" and to each other. I plan to replace them, one way or another, so, a timely question for me also.
thanks, John S.

Tom.
I'll take/find some pictures when I get back to the shop of a system we use for a 2/3 drop in board. It uses a small amount of teak with Marine teak plywood. A lot less cost than solid teak.
Give me a couple of days, as I'm on the road doing Sage stuff. Will be back in Golden, CO, new years.

I have to replace my companionway hatch boards. The track will accept 3/4
inch thick stock. Any suggestions for type of wood to use? Will something other than expensive teak work?Should the ends be splined to prevent warping from the sun? Thanks, Tom B <
