You're trying to make your sail letters last one more season, right? Keep it simple. Get a can of 3M spray on adhesive and try that. To my knowledge, it isn't likely to melt anything, but read the can first anyhow. Clean the surfaces to be glued with a bit of alcohol first, then spray on and stick down. At worst, it won't work and you'll be back to square one. You can get spray on adhesive just about anywhere.
