Hi, Andrei: I replaced the through-deck electrical connector on my '83 M-17 last year, and it's an easy job. If yours is the original connector, it may be time to replace both the male and female units anyway. My old one came out fairly easy. Since there was evidence of slight water leakage through the hole, I re-drilled the mounting hole oversize and then routed out core material about a half-inch beyond the hole with a bent nail chucked into my drill. Then I filled the hole with thickened epoxy, re-drilled and mounted a new Perko watertight deck connection ($22 at West Marine). Then I just spliced the new male connector onto my mast wiring. If you don't want to do that, West Marine carries another watertight deck connection unit that looks very similar to the original equipment, and the male connection may fit your deck connection. Dear M-sailors,
I need your help with the following issue. The only outside light my 1982 M-17 has is a tri-colored sailboat light at the top of the mast, which is supposed to be hooked-upto the electrical system via two wires that run through the mast to a connector mounted on the cabin top. The female connector (the one on the cabin top) is still there; it appears to be made of stainless steel, with a stainless steel screw-on cover, and the male connector seems to be also screwing into it. Unfortunately the male connector (attached to the wires coming out of the mast) was lost by the previous owner. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement for this male connector? Who makes them, etc.? This appears to be original on the boat.
If this does not work, I need to replace both the male and female plugs. Does anyone have any recommendation for how to remove the existing female plug? It appears to be very solidly glued inside its hole on the cabin top. Recommended replacement plugs?
Thanks in advance,
Andrei.
