Bruce, I think the name of the one I used to install is called a Whale Chimp, and I would mount it in the side panel of the footwell, about even with the endo f the tiller or a bit aft of that. I would exhaust it thru the transom, above the waterline so that you can hear if it's pumping. I scanned back quite a-ways on old threads and found little information regarding the use of manual bilge pumps or their placement on an M17. My 1974 boat has never had one and now I figure to place a manual pump for that inevitable rogue wave or potential cockpit drain failure. We had them on our diesel inboard boats. Any experiences or comments in this regard would be appreciated, bruce.
