I read 'yes' to the loose footed main. Something to do with the air at the foot that isn't driving but creating resistance and needs an exit. Having to go around the boom making dirty air is inefficient. Other items on the plus side: - When you reef you can tie around just the foot of the sail and not hte boom - Easier to rig.
