Don't you love it? This year Busca trounced a Pearson 28 and a Beneteau 383, with no help from me. From the North end of Poplar Island, in a blustery but steady, northerly, I kept hard on the wind and thought I could just make South River without tacking. Turns out, I made it all the way to the marina, at the Rt 2 bridge, without tacking! What fun! Anyway, I probably should have reefed, but it was pretty steady and I could luff a little when necessary. I approached, caught and passed a really salty looking boat after leaving Poplar Narrows. I'm sure it was an Orion. He was to windward of me and not heading as close as Storm Petrel, but I was definitely faster, too. After I passed him, he tacked back to the North East. 'Nuf said. I also agree she is a wonderful looking craft.
Ah, the PS Orion! A friend has had one of those for ten years or so, and it's probably the boat I would most like to own. I've sailed with him many times, and as somebody mentioned it's not particularly fleet to weather (although it's never seemed _that_ bad!). There aren't many that I prefer to the Vancouver 25, but the Orion... The reason I heard that the Orion is no longer in production is that it's just too expensive to build -- PS could build a bigger boat for not much more money, but sell it for a lot more.
