Oh yeah! I'm interested. Sounds like a blast. (Except the committee boat part.) Can't commit to anything for the immediate future, though. Terminal health issues within the extended family will be keeping us close to home for a while. Larry On Wed, Aug 13, 2014 at 3:46 PM, Tom Jenkins <tjenk@gte.net> wrote:
Sean,
We always come early and stay a few days after festivities close, so we would love to sail against some M17’s. No matter how good everyone goes, someone has to bring up the rear!

I was disappointed to see only one "stocker" M17 at the Cruiser Challenge this year. I know you guys are out there...where the heck did you go?!
If I am going to race, I like going head to head with other sailors, taking the boats out of the equation as much as possible and pitting our skills against one another in evenly matched (or as close to even as possible) boats. The hotrod boats are way cool and faster than heck....but getting spanked by one (even if I can beat him on corrected time) well, it just isn't the same as going head to head, boat for boat. I like being able to look at the gap between me and a competitor and knowing that the gap I see is the gap I have to make up or the gap I need to keep....rather than try to guess where I should be based on a handicap. It's a fun way to learn what works and what doesn't. At the end of the day it minimizes crying about rating and maximizes fun and camaraderie.
Because of the Havasu Event, I I have all the race gear on hand. So.... is anyone interested in a Stock Monty Mid-Winters? Strictly Monty and Strictly stock. My idea is the boats could sport any rig/rudder model that is/was available on a boat from any Montgomery builder throughout the years. Otherwise, hull/rudder/rig/sail mods would not be allowed. Running rigging could be modified (we'd never find all boats w/ running rigging the same and it doesn't have as much influence on speed) , but sails must be stock in measurement. The only handicap applied would be for tall rig boats as that was a factory option. We would run a number of races probably including course racing, out and back , and long distance..(and I do mean long). I'm thinking this would be a weekend event.
I would do this here on Lake Havasu and would probably tie it in either at the beginning or the end of the HPCC for those that wanted to attend that as well. This would be in Feb, but dates are still pending.
We'd need a fair number of boats to make it worth the effort.
Give it some thought. If you are interested contact me at Sailhavasu@aol.com . If we get enough interest I'll see if we can put it together, if not...no worries whatsoever. Just like to see the Mboats getting out there and thought a level fun playing field might be just the ticket to get'er going. So what say you M-boaters???
