Hi All, The first post I made announcing the photo site is hard to read as there are no paragraph stops. Hope this post comes out better. This is the same post. If you managed to read the last one. Dont read on: You will recall I promised a new Photo Site by Christmas: Learning how to build a web site from scratch is a lot like learning to sail… All those words and phrases that make little or no sense anywhere else in the world except to those who are in the same boat. Here are the statistics: There are well over 600 photos that I turned into thumbnails that measure 175 X 131 pixels and are created at 75 DPI. Those same photos are in a finished size of 1024 X 768 at 150 DPI ready for you to download and use as you wish. That means there were about 1300 photos to manipulate. These photos are placed in albums on over 100 custom (did not use any templates) designed and created, easy to use web pages. Then there is the Copy (words – text) I redid many of the albums to get rid of the cutesy stuff that could possibly make the MSOG look unprofessional. I spell checked every document and all text to be certain I wasn’t to far off (you may find errors – report them please). The site design with the small thumbnails, same background and header/title on every page and no flash and not too many mouse over moves has made a site that can be viewed with a dial up. As you will recall I couldn’t view some recent stuff and it’s nice to have high speed but, I’m told the households on dialup are better than 60 % of the internet users. I hope the simplicity of the design will help the dial up users. Our site is designed and should look okay and possibly excellent with all of the popular browsers. 90% of computers sold in the US are delivered with Internet Explorer as the primary Browser. Some of the problems are due to HTML Coding which is how a site is designed and is often read differently by various browsers (again if you spot problems – report them please). The other variable is monitor size. I’ve designed the site to show properly at a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 and I’ve optimized it to scroll out and view properly with wide screen monitors all the way out to 1280 X 1024 or larger. If your monitor is adjusted to 800 X 600 so the icons on the front page of your site are larger, the Photo Site will not show maximized on your screen. Our web address is secure and is registered for the next five years. The web space is paid on a yearly basis and it is shall we say - large. We can go up to 11 Gigabytes of storage space (we are less than 400 megabytes right now) and our bandwidth is set at a whopping 400 Gigabytes per month! The MSOG Photo Site shines because many of you care enough to send me some great photos. Without your help it doesn’t exist. We have plenty of room. By my best guess I figure we can get well over 10,000 pictures of good quality on the site. There is still time to ask Mrs. / Mr. Santa for that digital camera you’ve been wanting. There are small changes to be made and I expect to do updates to add material once a month. But, for the most part with exception of a few scattered sentences that don’t make much sense, the site is ready for public viewing. Happy Holidays and here’s your Christmas present (open it right away) I do hope you like it. _www.MSOGPhotoSite.com_ (http://www.msogphotosite.com/)
