first recommendation is handheld. example is the HawkEye H22PX. about $100. if you wish to do a fixed install, and have an electrical system, get a depth sounder that uses an in-hull trasnducer. HawkEye D10D is a nice unit. follow the instructions on how to in-hull mount. not difficult, but it may require a few 'test installs'. (you may find a few Uniden QT-206 units around, make sure you get one with an in-hull transducer.
