Bill, They were already on the sail when I bought Busca. They appear to be spaced at each place the sail would cross the boom when laying flaked, about two feet apart, roughly. If you want the measurements, I could drag the sail out and measure them. For my purposes, slugs are the way to go. I suppose there is a slight performance loss compared to a straight bolt-rope, but you'd probably never notice it unless you were racing M17's one-design. Photo here: http://www.bright.net/~htmills/poleshot03.jpg Did I ever tell about kicking a Beneteau 383's behind this fall? We were both headed up the Potomac in fairly light air, both flying full mains and big gennys on a run. At first I was lollygagging along half asleep until I noticed he was creeping up on us. So! I raised the board, poled the genny out, and started paying attention to where we were going. Instant results and I estimate we were doing between half again and twice as fast. After a while, despite a slightly building breeze, he fired up the motor and furled his genny. I almost felt MEAN whooping him like that. *evil grin* Tod M17 #408 BuscaBrisas -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces+htmills=bright.net@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces+htmills=bright.net@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of BILLAMICASR@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2004 9:44 PM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: track lube Tod, Questions on the slugs. How did you determine where slug placement should be? and... Is there any noiticeable distortion in the sail?
