Why not take the motor to a professional mechanic? Just a thought. t
I called everyone in the area and they are booked solid. Height of the season around here is the problem. Great idea though. I do a mechanic buddy to turn to....but I love to mess with these things myself now and again. For now I am using my old Johnson 2 stroke. If the Yamaha, once corrected is not much smoother or better than it has been, I may end up using Mr. Johnson permanently. I just got back for sailing and the 2 stroke twin is sooooo smooth and quiet. Short shaft though. Tim D.

I was wondering if the cut out is done by owners or if there were certain years that it was done one.
When my 4hp Yamaha is working, it seems more power than you would ever need.
And speaking of when it is working, I am wondering if anyone has had the same symptoms as I have had with my motor. I am in the middle of trying to get it to run properly. It is a 2002 Yamaha four HP four stroke. It had not been used for a coupla years prior to our buying it about three weeks ago.
At first I thought it was just tune up related. Changed the plug, no help. Then I did a carb kit and cleaned everything all up. No help either. Then yesterday when my son and I were having a good look at everything we discovered the engine is burning oil. In fact, a couple of times when the outboard was kept in the back of the van it leaked oil as well...externally.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards, Tim D.
