Jerry,

I've been racing my M17 for a few years and have finally got it going the way it should, or least close to it, and now I'm  passing boats that I know aren't as fast.  I have a PHRF of 295 on the M17, but I am begining to suspect that that is too much.  I've seen some nunbers passed around on the site from time to time, but there still is some uncertainty about what is the correct number.  It seems that after building and racing the boats you would know what is an accurate (or appropriate) rating for the boat.

I am frustrated that my trip around the USA with my M17 has come to a halt.  I was particularly looking forward to that race in Monterey, with the hope that I could get some tips from you on fine tuning the rig. The leg is healing up steadily but slowly, and now the plan is to do the trip next year.  I am writing some articles for the Small  Craft Advisor about the trip, and then I plan to write a book about it. I hope you will be at the 2003 race!

Thanks for any help you can give,

John Edwards
