I tried a couple of things mounted on the hatch board but kept tripping over the board everytime I tried to get something out of the cabin while sailing. Try a PLASTIMO IRIS 100 HAND COMPASS. They are designed to mount on the cabin top or on the wood frame around the cabin and are easily removed to use as a hand bearing compass. Somewhere here I saw a pic of a Monty with what appeared to be a bulkhead compass mounted in the bottom hatchboard. No compass on my 15 and I like the idea from the pic.
Any particular decent price compass brand/model that would be recommended? And, does this mounting config make sense, or are there downsides?
I just have difficulty cutting holes in my boat, whereas a hatchboard is rather easily replaced. Other option suggestions welcome.
