Today, I had the pleasure of watching this America's Cup-style match on San Francisco Bay along the city front between Alinghi, the Swiss America's Cup victor and Oracle, owned by Larry Ellison.  Becky (my better half) and I brought our bicycles.  We found a spot on a hill at Fort Mason.  I was not prepared for the excitement of seeing two spectacular sails beating towards us with a huge fleet of yachts following close behind.

After they passed by going towards the Golden Gate bridge we tried to stay with them but couldn't catch up.  The masts are humongous in comparison to their hulls.  Oracle was ahead by only a boat length as they passed.  However, on the down leg run Alinghi was ahead by a couple boat lengths.  There was such a huge crowd of sail and motorized boats all over the city front that I can't imagine there won't be a foul called.  It's a great setting for such competition.  We had typical Indian Summer weather in the 70s with clear beautiful skys and maybe 15 knots of wind.
