I'd guess tthat the 29mm would do it. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Wickett" <billwick@gmail.com> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 15, 2012 7:32 AM Subject: M_Boats: Sizing masthead spinnaker halyard block
I have a nice new assymetrical cruising spinnaker from Judy B at Hyde Sails.
My mast head has an empty position forward of the forestay pin. My plan is to pin a swivel block in that empty position and lead the halyard through that. (external halyard for now) Can anyone advise on block size? A Harken 29mm Carbo swivel block has a working load of 330 lbs and a breaking load of 1000 lbs. Is that sufficient or should I go to a 40mm block or larger with a higher working load? I have not idea of the load involved with a 176 sq ft spinnaker.
Thanks
