Well that should keep you out of trouble this winter! Here are a couple sites to view: http://m17-375.webs.com/svaudasea.htm Once upon a time, we had a short lived website for Montgomery boats. I participated, writing a blog about my repairs. When the website went down, I gave Dave permission to post them on his site. Then there is the MSOG: http://www.msog.org/models/m17/modelm17.cfm and http://www.msog.org/how-to/how-to.cfm http://www.msog.org/specs/specs.cfm On the latter page, there are a couple surveys done on similar boats. They all tend to have the same "issues", so these surveys are a good place to go looking for trouble. Once you get them in shape, they are great boats. I'm not a racer by nature, but do race some and have won some trophies. Howard 573-819-6969 cell On Dec 10, 2012, at 12:12 PM, Gary Froeschner wrote:
Hello Howard. Wow - I didn't expect such a reply so quick. Good to know there is someone in Columbia with a Montgomery. I definitely have a lot of questions.
In general this is what I need to fix on my boat.
Clean & recoat the centerboard. Replace the center board stop pin. Looks like it got busted out of the keel from a hard center board drop. Replace or repair the mainsail. I am all ready receiving some quotes. This boat had a plumbed in head with a holding tank. The toilet bowel is broken off and gone. Need to find a replacement, or not??? Probably most of the running rigging has to be replaced. It's 36 years old.
Other than that, she's in pretty good shape - I think????
Look forward to communicating with you. Thanks for your reply.
Tell me a little about your boat.

Gary:
You may or may not be in luck (depends on your perspective), but I also live in Columbia and have been sailing a 1978 M17 for several years. With a boat of this age, I also have some experience with fixing things. Be happy to talk to you about it. I primarily sail at Mark Twain, but have trailered to Stockton, along with several trips to the Chesapeake.
Send me a note off list and I'll give you a call.

My name is Gary Froeschner. I recently purchased a 1976 Montgomery 17. I bought it in St. Paul, MN and towed it to my house in Columbia, MO. It is my first sailboat. I recently completed the first ASA course - Basic Keel Boat Sailing 101. So - I'm new at all of this. I will be sailing the boat primarily at The Lake of the Ozarks in MO, but plan on towing it other places too. The boat needs a fair amount of work. I have a boat load of questions. I hope I can have her ready for next season.
