Gary, I'm curious. How do you put the prebend in your mast on the M17? There is no rigging below the masthead - other than the lower shrouds, which are in-line with the foot of the mast. I don't see how you are able to pull the center of the mast forward on our rigs. Very good point about the 'prebend' in mast when static.
We have about 1.5" bend in the mast w/no sailing load (tall rig M-17) - Measure this and tell your sailmaker when you order that new mainsail!
