Robbin... I used some Blue Sea System battery terminal pass through's in Dauntless' transom, rather than have an open hole. They pass a lug through the transom (sealed hole) with threads like battery terminals on each side. I have used them for 7 years now with no problems. I like it much better than an extra open hole. I did the same thing with a nissan quick connect fuel coupler....purchasing the male end that usually goes through the motor cowling and instead mounting it in the transom. I did have a problem with that particular fitting after a few years and need to replace it, as it is not opening fully when connected and restricting flow. But prior to that it has worked flawlessy. When removing the motor I just unbolt the battery cables from the transom and disconnect the fuel line. The fuel fitting was a bit of a challenge to install as it is barely long enough to leave enough barb poking through on the inside...but it worked.
