I did'nt do any special preperation. I just used some teak cleaner and did some sanding to freshen the surface. Le Tonkinois is a combination of teak oil and linseed oil that is heated so that a varnish is produced. It may be more tolerant to residual oil than other varnishes. I guess time will tell.
