Matt, Thanks for the kind offer. Since our boat seems to be virtually identical to yours but for the sail color, I would certainly feel at home. See you at Havasu in February! Tom On Jan 2, 2011, at 10:19 AM, Matthew Marx wrote:
Tom, I live here in San Diego, so the boat stays in the dry storage whenever it isn't being trailered somewhere else. I used to keep it in a slip at Driscoll's, but bottom maintenance and slip fees were costly (more than membership and storage at the YC!) Now, I can just drop the mast and I'm on my way.
The cheapest guest slips in San Diego are at the Harbor Police docks on Shelter Island. They are first come first served, and there's always room for a 17 on an inside slip that the deep keel boats can't reach. $10 per night per slip. The Shelter Island launch ramp is a challenging one though, with a stone breakwall just behind you as you pull off the trailer.
Next time you are in town, let me know and we'll arrange a sail on Lily.

Hi Matt,
Many thanks for the suggestions. We visit our daughter near Balboa Park a few days a month, so Mission Bay is probably our best bet for some sailing with the family. I gather the yacht club has a hoist that does not interfere with the mast, but I can't envision dropping the boat in the water for a lunchtime sail. Do you keep it in a slip or mooring while you are in town?
