I believe ideally the keel roller takes some of the load. Several sailors have built guides of pvc to help with alignment when loading. Bill's photo site has some pictures. I'll bet someone has mentioned this, but for the sake of redundancy, make sure the cb lanyard has a support knot tied in the proper place after you've solved your problem. The knot supports the aft end of the cb and keeps it from beating itself to death while deployed. The cast iron M17 cb (pre-1988 if Randy's research is correct) weighs in at around 180 lbs.
