I've found that my 17 balances quite well with the boom just over the quarter and the helm hard alee, so I can get at the leach reefing line without leaning out of the boat. I agree. I reef the M17 and the M23 while hove-to. Both park rather well with a slight forward motion of a knot or less. Having a rigid Forespar vang on the M23 really is a plus, thus no topping lift to adjust.
