Ah yes, I meant halyards for the main and jib. Sorry for the term confusion! Covering the line with a polyester sheath sounds like a cool idea! How did you run the dyneema through? I've got a couple initial thoughts but would be interested in any advice! On Sat, Nov 8, 2014, 12:17 PM Thomas Buzzi <thomaspbuzzi@gmail.com> wrote:
Wow, that's pretty ambitious and ingenious.

I'm guessing you meant halyard and not sheet. Bare 1/8" line is not appropriate for sheets. I am using 1/8 or 5/32" Dyneema for the jib halyard on my M17. I left the top 23' bare and covered the rest with 1/4" polyester. I stripped the core out of some 1/4" double braid I had and threaded the Dyneema through the old cover. This makes handling the thin stuff much easier and also gives the cam cleat a better surface to bite on.
I also replaced the backstay and bridle with 1/8" Dyneema.

I think you may find 50 feet of 1/8 line a bit long and skinny for your mainsheet. I think you need about 30 feet of 5/16 on an M-15. Steve M-15 # 335

Agreed! The only issue is price. I replaced the jib and mainsheet on my m15 and 50 or so feet of 1/8" cord was around $40 with shipping. Haven't tried using it yet, but I'm a little worried about it biting my hands in a blow because its so thin! We shall see. I'll update the group on its usage next season.

one of the 'coolest' advances in rigging in the last decade IMO - little/light and easy to splice - great stuff ! AND and pretty much UV resistant to boot - what's not to like?
Have Fun go sailing!
