Absolutely right, The motor in question... the 300" 6 cyl is also known as the 4.9 inline 6. If you've ever seen a Fed X or Air Express, etc. 3/4 ton van that's what they use. That engine is capable of hundreds of thousands of miles. Usually mated to the small bell housing C-6 (3-speed) auto trans. and the combo is bullet proof. Bad on fuel, usually about 10-12 MPG, but you'll make that up in the lack of repairs from the durability. GM also had the 292 cid - 6cyl that was also bullet proof, but discontinued it in favor of the 4.3 ltr. V-6 (great engine). If I could find an old van in decent condition with maybe 75-100K miles with the 4.9 & C-6 with posi or locking differential, That would be an excellent combo for a tow vehicle. For my use mileage isn't the concern so much as dependability. And the search goes on. Bill
