Or get a winch handle with a bend in it, and if there is enough slop in the winch itself you can just get by (if you don't put the handle into the socket quite all the way). I am going to put a very slight wedge under my CB winch, and then the handle will clear the trunk even fully inserted. It will also - on my boat anyhow - give a bit better alignment of the pennant with the winch drum so should be a win-win. cheers, John S. On 05/07/2018 08:27 PM, Dave Scobie wrote:
Seems autocorrect got me ... My email list some text.
Adding to my prior -
yes, as the winch handle will hit the centerboard trunk it needs to be ratcheting.

You need a 6" winch. Yeah, it does need to be watching, so I'm wondering if your boat's has a broken or jammed pawls?
See here details on taking one apart to service -

A lot if the M17s have ACOR 6's. No longer available. A Harken B6A will work fine if your winch is actually beyond repair. Defender.com is a good source.

I am in need of a centerboard winch. There is one on my boat, but I don’t think it is the original. It is single speed, one way, non-ratcheting winch. (if I’ve got the nomenclature right). The handle hits the centerboard trunk & you can’t back it up (ratchet) to take another bite. Assuming that this is not how it was designed, do you have the proper winch? If so, how much? I live in Columbia, MO - 65203.
