I prefer boltrope. Grew up with it on the Thistle. Slugs concentrate stress on the few points where they are attached; not good durability. A slugged sail will flake more easily, but personally I'm more interested in performance under sail than performance at the dock. At the dock, the boltrope sail does have one less thing to handle: the cotter pin, sail stop or whatever holds the slugs. I silicone the mast slot once or twice a year and the rope slides easily.
