We made a short (narrow in height) hatch board to which we mounted cup holders. That makes drinks handy when sitting up at the front of the cockpit (as Dave Scobie suggests for sailing efficiency). That board idea came from Connie Benneck, a great resource on this list. As good as the board with the cup holders work, I admit we mostly set drinks on the floor and are careful. That actually works fine most of the time.
