I sure as heck use mine too. Sail shape is important when you are racing and going hard to windward. When running scared you appreciate a small sail up front to balance the boat. When sailing on a broad reach or running, sometimes a little sail up front is all you need. Furlers that wind up on the head stay are vulnerable to weakness at the head and tack. You for sure need a double headstay if you have a furler only. gilbert landin <gilbert.landin@gmail.com> wrote: I sure as heck use my reefing roller, and would not give it up. When the wind comes up I really don't care about sail shape. I would rather just stay upright. gil -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces+gilbert.landin=gmail.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces+gilbert.landin=gmail.com@mailman.xmission.c om] On Behalf Of Wcpritchett@aol.com Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2007 11:31 AM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: roller furling? For a lot less money you can do a standard furler instead of a furler/reefer. Using furler/reefers to reef really doesn't give the ideal shape anyway. A furler has no head stay foil to deal with which is nice for trailering. Sails roll up on the luff wire (which needs to be secured to the sail properly for furling) and attach only at head and tack. You have to change sails for reefing. Harken make small boat furlers. I have one on my 20' trailer sailor. Very easy.
