Charlie: Make a lower companionway hatchboard and attach to this brackets to hold GPS, VHF and whatever else. Make it a little shorter than the standard lower hatchboard so can more easily step over and into the cabin. This board is also a safety improvement to keep any boarding seas out of the cabin. Somewhere I have pictures of one of these - made them for Sage owners. This video shows one in use (starting at 1min) - https://youtu.be/kyJ4oLZutjU?t=59 :: Dave Scobie :: SV SWALLOW - https://sailboatsallow.wordpress.com :: Montgomery 6'8" #650 :: Truck camper - https://truckpopupcamper.wordpress.com/ :: Ramblings - https://scoobsramblings.wordpress.com/ :: former M17 owner #375 SWEET PEA - https://m17-375.com/ <http://www.m17-375.webs.com/> :: former M15 owner #288 - http://www.freewebs.com/m15-name-scred On Fri, Oct 20, 2023 at 8:03 AM Charlie Fortner <charlie@rentrof.net> wrote:
How do you keep stuff from sliding around the cockpit while you're sailing? Stuff like the VHF, binoculars, your beverage, GPS, sunscreen, etc.
I don't think I want to put something permanent on the cabin since that's a nice place to rest your back when lounging in the cockpit. Maybe something along the vertical space between the sole and the seat?
I've seen those mesh bag organizers and it seems like a good idea, but I hope there are some Monty-specific solutions.

PS Great sail yesterday on Lake Lanier north of Atlanta. Cool, consistent winds, warm sunshine, and a dearth of powerboats!
