John, Practical Sailor magazine has a good issue a few months back on bottom paint. There are some that do well with going in and out of the water and some that do not. I do not have the issue handy to see which. They have a good web site that would allow you to find the issue and order if you want. If you dry store I might suggest that no anti fouling would be necessary. You could either go with the bare fiber glass, barrier coat if there is one or put on a purely cosmetic paint. Anti fouling is a rather toxic and expensive covering to use if it is not truly needed. All the best, Robbin John and DesAnne Hippe wrote:
Hello All,
Looking for a bit of advice regarding bottom paint. I am removing my old ablative antifouling paint that was on the boat when I purchased it. The current bottom paint on my boat has turned a dry, powdery blue/grey -- ugly.
I am not sure of which paint to go with now. I have used Micron Extra with good luck in the past but that was on a boat that was launced and retrieved only once a season. I sail exclusively in fresh water. I dry store on my trailer and launch and retrieve about 50 times during the summer. So, I want something that will resist the abrasion of launching. I also want multi-season coverage that will look good over time. Your input would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
