Scott, What an excellent treatise on towing! Your equipment list was also outstanding, no doubt the result of long years of experience. It's a discourse that merits printing and saving. Many thanks. I've recently been perusing the small truck sites, and came to many of the same conclusions. As to the dramatic differences in the tow ratings of various transmissions, I suspect that it is governed by the individual transmission's mechanical strength and durability. More than most things, there's a lot that we can't see about a transmission that really counts, such as shaft diameters, bearing size, location, quantity, etc. Manufacturerers know their equipment best. If you ever make it to Tennessee, come by and see us :) Steve Tyree, P-15 #2098 "Amy Ann"
