Bobbie, You can't really tell without taking off the hub and looking directly at the bearings. One caution: On a boat trailer is is very important to be sure the hub cavity is full of grease when you back your trailer in the water. Many mechanics who pack wheel bearings will only pack the bearings and reassemble the hubs leaving the hub cavity full of air. This is fine for a normal car, truck or trailer, but is a bad thing on a boat trailer where the hubs will be submerged. Be sure your hubs get filled up with grease, whether you do it or your mechanic does. Bearing buddies or at least a grease zerk in the dust cap are a big help for this. Rik Bobbie Mayer wrote:
How can I tell if the wheel bearings need repacking? I'm probably going to have it done but I just wondered.
