Arnold, My brother owned Griselda (M17 #14) before I did and he solved the problem of the prop damaging the rudder. He attached a triangular block to each side of the rudder just above the lower gudgeon which limits the rudder angle. The blocks have rubber toilet seat bumpers on them which strike the transom before the rudder strikes the prop. As for vibration, I have all three of the motors he used on Griselda. One is a 6hp single cylinder British seagul with a 5 blade prop and the vibration is awful but the torque is fantastic. The other is an Evinrude Yachtwin 4hp full gearshift two cylinder. The clyinders fire on opposite strokes and it is very smooth. The 4hp is enough against almost any sea and wind conditions. The third motor is a 54 pound thrust MinnKota trolling motor which is good for docking but not strong enough to push against any kind of wind or sea. My choice is definately the Evinrude. The seagull looks really neat especially since I stripped and polished the aluminum parts and the solid brass fuel tank but................. it vibrates and smokes and is not easy to start.
