My pendant jams too if I take 3 wraps on the winch. The solution for me has been to take only 2 wraps on the winch. Two wraps are (just) enough grip to raise the centerboard and never jam. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Rifkind" <drifkind@acm.org> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2016 12:06:30 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: Water through centerboard hole Interesting to see these variations on the centerboard tackle. I had a bunch of trouble with the pendant jamming on the winch. For a quick fix I put an eye strap on the bulkhead just under the winch and led the pendant through it. This is hard on the line, which has to make a bunch of sharp turns, but I’ve had no jams. It might be better to space the winch further out from the bulkhead. There is a little too much space between my centerboard and the stop pin, and if the centerboard comes down too fast (like when unjamming the winch) it can push past the stop. When that happens it’s hard to get back into place.
